Transferring a website to another domain:

A domain is an integral element of the website address on the Internet and is a unique designation from a set of letters and numbers. There are three levels of domains:

If you want to save positions on Google, the step-by-step process of transferring a site from one domain to another should consist of the following steps:

1. Domain selection.
   Before choosing a domain, you should check:
   • was it under search engine sanctions;
   • whether it has low-quality or suspicious external links;
   • age of domain (website younger than 1-2,5 years old are more difficult to promote).
2. Transfer of information to a new resource.
   If the hosting remains the same, all actions are performed by the hoster. If hosting changes along with the domain change, the data transfer is carried out independently.
3. Setting up redirect from the old domain to the new one.

   On all pages of the old domain, you need to register a 301 redirect and point to the corresponding pages of the new domain. In this case, you need to inform Google Search Console about the transferring of your portal.

There are different ways of changing a domain of a website on WordPress:

1. Through the WordPress admin area.
   For this you need:
   1. Enter WordPress admin panel.
   2. Select the "Settings - General" tab in the menu.
   3. Change the old domain name to the new one in the "WordPress Address (URL)" and "Site Address (URL)" fields.
2. Using requests to database.
   For this you need:
   1. Enter to cPanel of your account («My services» - «Control panel»).
   2. Select "phpMyAdmin" in the "Databases" block.
   3. Choose database your website uses.
   4. Select the SQL tab and make three queries on the page, changing:
      • name of database;
      • old domain name;
      • the name of the column responsible for user comments and domain names.
   5. Check the correctness of the entered data.
      Direct the new domain to the site files folder:
      • when changing the main domain - by contacting support;
      • when changing an additional domain - by adding a new domain name as an additional one, after that:
        а)redirect content display by domain name;
        b) transfer website content between domain name folders.

To change the domain for a site on Bitrix, you need:

1. Go to the admin panel, click on the settings, go to "Product settings" - "Sites" - "List of sites".
2. Set the website you need by changing its domain.
3. Register a 301st redirect in to notify search engines about moving the site to another address.
4. Place an ad for users to move the site to a new domain.
5. Check the correctness of the website.
6. Add a new mobile subdomain when a non-working mobile subdomain is found near the base version of the site.

The sequence of actions when changing the domain for a website on OpenCart is:

1. Download all files from the server.
2. Create a database backup via PhpMyAdmin.
3. We upload files to the new server.
4. We install the database on a new server using PhpMyAdmin.
5. Change variables in 2 config.php folders.
